A disease like anthrax could wipe out the vast majority of the human race, but a very very few may survive to carry on in the ruins of civilisation. There would not be enough people to keep services going - such as water, electricity, shops, medical services, farming and food supplies. The remains of the human race would have to make do in loose tribes of survivors, but tribal warfare for remaining resources could wipe out even more humans.
Even if there were to be a total human wipeout, there is no need to postulate a replacement race. Earth would be overcome by rats, ants and rabbits, but there is no need to imagine that any of them could ever become intelligent in any way.

Coronation St has tackled some real issues that have impacted on many people's lives - Alzheimers, rape, domestic abuse, miscarriage, abortion, teenage pregnancy, cancer - and usually done so with sensitivity.

The current Hayley storyline is being dealt with incredibly well with great acting and realistically shows how some cancers develop. Hayley is a well loved character in the show and there has already been a reaction amongst the viewers.

Yes, it is a soap, and yes, it isn't real. But it is brave enough to bring some very sensitive issues in to the living rooms of millions.

I read this thread before reading the link...and initially thought the complaint was about Top Gear and the irritating Mr Clarkson.
I watch neither TopGear nor Corrie, but if a soap chooses to tackle the right to die-which IS newsworthy-than surely its not a bad thing. It may educate a huge audience about issues that many may be ignorant of,or reluctant to discuss. So-how does that constitute 'bilge'?
