Called into friend's yesterday and she had made stew earlier for her husband and son but then told me she would be adding dumplings made from (she could not remember the name and had no package) she called them something like aorta which we all know is connected to your heart. Can anybody tell me what she was talking about. LOL Conne

thanks boxy I have to laugh at her - she so loathes cooking.

But Boxy I am a bit of aware of Atora - is that not a form of margarine/lard. And would you make dumplings out of it. If so, I would not like it. Conne

sorry Boxy had written before I saw your link - oh oh now you can get dumplings - now they do look nice on the pack. I wonder are they and could you have them any other way other than stew. Thanks
no conne, look at the link - Atora make stuff out of suet. I don't know of any marge called anything like that.....
Crikey can you still get Atora? Always used to be in the kitchen playsets I had as a child. It's just pure suet isn't it - like suet dumplings.

If you don't fancy the "real" suet - you can get "vegetarian suet"...same funny pellets.
Atora suet can do it. They sang that in the adverts.
Love dumplings, my mum used to put them in casseroles. Aunt Bessie's aren't bad, if you can find them.
Yum yum suet dumplings. Just use the same measurements as you do for pastry (half fat to flour) so if you use 2oz suet, then use 4oz self raising flour. add salt and a few dried herbs if you like and mix to a dough using milk or water. Roll the dough into little balls (about walnut sized, they swell up) and drop them into your casserole for the last 20 mins cooking time. Delicious
