Apart from your hate for them i don't think they are really a problem for your garden (except if you have a pond in which case they will move in with their millions of brothers and sisters) and i could be wrong but aren't there bylaws against squishing frogs these days? Anyway to answer your question and considering the average height a frog can jump is about a foot then i would say a 2 foot fence/barrier round the garden will solve the problem
There is no simple frog deterrent, no harmless chemical, plastic heron or warning sign that will make them think "oh oh, better not go there". The only ways to stop frogs are to:
Remove the conditions that attract them in the first place.
Divert them from the rest of the garden with a froggy corner
Put some kind of physical barrier in place that they can't cross.
Frogs and toads are attracted to your garden for two reasons. The garden provides a source of food in the form of slugs, which they eat in large numbers. Secondly, they are attracted by shady, cool, moist places and water features.
The most effective method of deterring them is to remove the slugs and re-design the damp cool spots out of the garden. Neither method is easy but if you are desperate to get the frogs out, it is the only way.
Hi matimage! I don't know which amphibian the cats are more likely to leave alone (probably neither, unfortunately), but toads will survive better than frogs in an urban garden. Toads live on land all the time, except for when they lay their eggs in a pond, lake, or stream. Frogs, however, spend nearly all of their time in the water, so unless you have permanent water on your property, frogs would not be able to live there. Now that I think about it, toads might be better able to hide from cats because they can burrow a little into the dirt and also camouflage themselves (with their brown colour). Frogs can't dig into the dirt. I don't know how to attract them except to catch some in another location and bring them in. Try to find males as well as females. The males are small and the females are much larger.
