If you do a new install of Windows and put it on C it will automatically delete the copy of windows that is on C (if you chose to format the drive).
Are you going to put Vista back on it, and is this the version of windows that came with the laptop?
If so then there should be a hidden copy of Vista on the hard disk and you should be able to do a "factory restore" to put Windows back as it was when it left the factory.
The documentation that came with the laptop should tell you how to do a factory restore (or Windows reinstall).
If you have not got the documentation then the Acer website should tell you how to do a factory restore.
Note you will lose EVERYTHING on the C drive so save any personal files, logon details, email settings, browser favorites and so on before you do it.

It sounds like you are trying to install from the Vista CD/DVD.
As I said above, you should not need to do this (if you still have the original hard disk that came with the laptop it will have the hidden copy of Windows on it).
However if you DO want to do an install from the Vista CD/DVD make sure you download all the laptop drivers from the Acer web site and save them on a memory stick BEFORE doing the install.
If you don't do that you may find some of the laptop hardware components don't work after the Vista install.
Sometimes the component that lets you get to the internet does not work, but you cant download the drivers because you cant get to the internet. Catch 22.
But as I will say again, DONT do an install from the CD/DVD until you have tried to do a factory reinstall from the hard disk.
This is a FAR better thing to do as it will include all the drivers, plus all the programs that were included when you first bought the laptop.
The Windows Vista disk wont include all the drivers you need, and wont include all the extra programs Acer install.

During the Vista install from the Vista CD/DVD you get this Windows below (though yours may look slightly different)

If you want to delete Vista off the C drive you need to select the option in the bottom right, called "Drive options (advanced)"
This will take you to another window where you can delete the C drive (you can also delete D if you want if there is nothing on it).
Then create ANOTHER C drive, taking up the whole disk, and proceed with the Vista install.
This will do a clean install of Vista and the old Vista will be gone.
