My great grandad married Mary in India while he was in the Army. It was in 1878. She was Irish and I know her Dad's name from the Marriage records. My Great Grandad has been traced right back to the 1700's but I can't find anything about Mary. I am at a loss to know where to start. Can anyone advise me please. I have a great feeling I want to find my Irish roots.

is it probable that Mary's father was also in the British army? was she born in Ireland or India? if her father was also Irish have you found his birth place? you're probably going to need to contact a local family history society based in the birth county, if you have found that out.

Thanks DJ. I think she was born in Waterford but no real proof. Her name is a typically Irish one so it may be difficult except I know her birth and death dates. I will look for a local family history group in that area first. Thanks again.
