Wooly-Pully Repair

As it is turning increasingly autumnal I am reaching for my much loved cashmere cardi.

Sadly it is showing signs of abuse as I yank it on and the armhole is showing signs of wear and tear.

It is very fine gauge and I have not been able to find a suitable wool to make a repair and don't want to use sewing thread as it won't be stretchy enough.

Any suggestions in what I else I could look for to make small repairs to the seam?

It's the colour matching that I'm struggling with.....dark mushroom is my best description and I haven't found a close enough match so far.....and if I do it is too coarse!

The folk in the knitting shop were less than helpful.....having said that I realise I'm going to a different town with quite a good knitting shop this week, perhaps they'll be more helpful?!?

There is a brand called Fortissima that has a huge selection of colours, it can be difficult to source in this country unless you can find a helpful shop who will order some in for you. The other option would be to buy a skein of a near colour and use dylon dyes to get it exact (or as near as poss).

Thanks again Daffy, I'll try this other wool shop that have been helpful in the past. If they give me blank looks I will mention Fortissima.

It is so difficult to find wool/haberdashery/sewing shops these days :-(

I've to go into our big town tomorrow, there is/was a lovely shop there for wools etc, If it's till there I'll ask them about darning cashmere.

Last time I was in, they were very nice.
