Silver Plate Spoons

I use silver plate teaspoons every day and they go brown because of the tea. I scrub them with a sponge to get this off, but they are now tarnishing, the silver plate is wearing off in parts. How can I clean silver plate without this happening? I sometimes soak in a foil covered dish, with soda crystals, but on a daily basis, which is the best way to clean them? I also find that, when they are new they are lovely and bright and sparkly, but over time and use, they tend to fade and go matt. Help please !

When I get to 'do' the FIL's kitchen, which is usually on a notch below the Black Hole of Calcutta, I find a soak in a solution of bleach and water brings up the cutlery nicely without scrubbing.

Can you afford to get stainless steel teaspoons? No fuss or extra cleaning with those.

Perhaps they would benefit from a replating ?

I use Silver Dip on the tips of forks, it's good for that, but doesn't get the tarnishing off. I don't really like the harsh colour of stainless steel but I know they wear well. I will try the bleach and water tip though, thanks !

Silver Dip removes all the tarnish from my silver plated cutlery.

Well bleach made them black, good thing they were the old ones, and silver dip didn't help. Might be LK for stainless steel. Thanks all
