A friend of mine grows runner beans on his allotment. He grew the plants himself from seed and uses two varieties, Enorma and Scarlet Emperor. Recently on one vine he harvested a small number of been that instead of being green on the outside were purple coloured. Some plants he gave to another guy, who grew them in his garden have produced about 40% of the beans purple. He tells me these tasted perfectly normal and as he is still with us can't have been toxic. The rest were green as normal. The harvest has been plentiful. Any suggestions as to whats happening?
I have grown purple podded runners for a couple of years. They were originally a 'Polestar' cross that I isolated. They have come true when grown on their own. Since then i've trialled them in various parts of the country and as a result I've now named them AERON PURPLE STAR.
