Just been watching the One Show, with the shots of a Normandy beach with 9000 silhouettes, one for every death on D-Day.I found it strangely moving

So did I paddy.
I didn't see it. One of those lost that day was an uncle I never knew and it was his 21st birthday.
Same here Paddywak. Like seeing the WW1 cemeteries
I saw it too, very moving. On our recent holiday to France we went to the Pegasus bridge memorial and museum. Very interesting.

Some years ago while on a pub trip to Belgium some of us took a couple of old boys, veterans of WWI, to the Menin Gate for the Last Post Ceremony. I've always found the Last Post to be very emotive but to stand and hear it played surrounded by the names of 50,000 men who literally just disappeared into the mud of the Western Front is some special.
