There's a place up the road from me, called The Varteg. Anyone from around here will tell you the respect its held in having produced generations of 'hard men'. "Watch him, he's from the Varteg""Look out,they're Varteg boys"etc.
Now the Welsh Assembly are insisting on changing their name to Farteg.
Nobody wants it. The once proud men of Varteg will be loathe to leave the reservation and certainly won't admit where they come from.
Seriously,though,in these times of austerity why are half-wits being paid to come up with no-witted schemes like this. An ABer was singing the praises of the WA the other day. First Welshman I ever met who had a good word to say for them.

Jobs worths trying to justify their excistance. It's the same when you get a new administration in local government and they change the road signs from City of xxx to xxx City.

A waste of time, money and effort.

No need to change long established names and prctices just to make someones job relevent.

If this wasn't about changing the name to something which sounds rude in English, we or the BBC wouldn't even think it worth a mention. So let us have our little schoolboy giggle and then get over it.

Not sure why it can't have dual signing, just like lots of other places in Wales. eg...Cardiff/Caerdydd, Neath/Castell-nedd, etc.

We in Wales have got used to our Welsh Government, or what we used to call The Assembly. ( not sure what WA is ? ) It far more democratic and representative of the population of Wales then we had when the Tories were in power. Its the closest guarantee that Wales can have that we are never ruled over by a minority Tory administration ever again.

Before 1997, the Tories used to send a Governor General, in a ministerial Rover, down the M4 and over the Severn Bridge, with an ostritch-plumed hat resting on the back seat, despite the party not ever having a popular vote in Wales. Some of those weren't even Welsh MPs. Recently we had a Welsh Secretary in Cheryl Gillan who was the MP for that well known Welsh Constituency of Chesham and Amersham !

Maybe people have forgotten but 1997, the Tories didn't have a single MP in Wales, or in Scotland come to that. Even now, in Scotland, there are more giant pandas than Tory MPs !

Now, of course, the Tories think its a terribly good idea for devolved government in Wales but fail to explain why they didn't bring it in between 1979 and 1997.

Anybody who hasn't met a Welshman or a Welshwoman who "has a good word to say about the Welsh Government should get out more and speak to more Welsh people !

By the way, I am not a supporter of Plaid Cymru, nor am I Welsh-speaking.
