Spitting

On news this morning.
A man refused a fine for spitting in the street and therefore taken to court under the anti litter laws. His fine was upheld plus a further £300 costs in court fees .
Served him right I say.
What are your views on this filthy habit?

I must admit that I've done it (although rarely) when out running, although I would do it into a bush or grass (maybe that's no better) and not do it when people are nearby.

filthy habit, good, i saw bloke the other day do that hold one side of nostril and blow out the other onto the ground, that i have occasionally seen footballers do, yuck yuck

i wish i had the gumption to have told him off, but quite honestly he was a big fella and wasn't going to perhaps get a mouthful of abuse for my pains.

The filthiest habit ever - YUCK :( so well done the courts for fining him for littering - this is far worse than just dropping an apple core!

When I was little, if a man cleared his throat noisily and then spat in the street, my Mum used to say "Tut tut, look at those filthy men QUILKING" Is this a Midlands expression, anyone else heard it, or is it one she invented? Good descriptive word though, isn't it? LOL.

It used to just be an old man's habit but nowadays women do it too. Absolutely disgusting. On the, otherwise BEAUTIFUL, island of Madeira I was shocked that it seems be almost compulsory to howk your guts out. Young,old,male,female.. they were all spitting everywhere. Same in Chinatown in San Francisco. One had to dodge the lobs of spit flying out of doorways and upstairs windows. I always looked away but still heard the splash!. Yuck yuck and thrice yuck !!

several of our women neighbours do this, you hear it, that hawking back of the throat sound and them gob all over the place, it is truly vile,

It is a disgusting habit, unfortunately footballers have made it an acceptable one.

Good someone got caught in the act and was reprimanded. This a nasty habit I see all the time.

I wish people would be fined more often for spitting in the street/public places, and not cleaning up after their dog/s

I would bring back the village stocks for this kind of behaviour !

Another group of people are the ignorant ones that park in disabled places in supermarket car parks, despite have no right to do so...stick em in the stocks as well !

I think it's vile, and it's a habit which I hoped had died out, never to return - when I was a child I remember signs on the buses saying "no spitting". I blame footballers, people see it done on the TV. Where do people get so much phlegm on a regular basis? Yuck,. bleah
