Check the plugs are sparking, check there is fuel.
Question Author
plugs are sparking i drove the car home last night,

thinking this may be a relay or solonoid problem i am no expert...

thanks

when you say attempts to turn over do you mean turns over slowly? this is probably a battry or startermotor fault.

if it spins over ok then: i don't mean to sound condesending but even if the fuel gauge reads ok, don't trust it, make sure the tank isn't empty. bertie basic thing but easy to overlook. after that check fuel is getting to the carb / injectors. just slightly crack the pipe connection see if fuel comes out. remember if it's petrol it's highly flamable! so don't try it if you have any doubts about your ability to do it safley.
