Our lounge is currently magnolia (all walls) I would like one wall (perhaps the fireplace one) in a colour with the other three magnolia (or apricot white dulux) My husband thinks this is old fashioned - is it? what is the current thinking on emulsioned walls. Many thanks in advance.
go to the dulux site as you can plan schemes on their..also they send you money off vouchers...also it would look nice the way you describe and you could buy matching cushions in the two shades to pick the colours up...and flowers in the two shades...
what you are talking about denise is know an an "accent wall". It is a current fad, but like everything else, it will be seen as old hat in a few years.
Like cobie, we did that too, painting the fireplace wall a muted blue, to pick up the blue/grey carpet and three piece, it lifted the whole room, (the other walls were magnolia). We later painted the magnolia walls a shade called 'buttermilk', which is a kind of warm cream, and now it looks great) Personally I think magnolia is a paint colour from hell and should be banned, its so bland and unumaginative, but it was on the walls when we moved in.
An accent wall is very fashionable at the moment, as spaced says, but everything will go out of fashion in time, even magnolia ! The accent wall is wallpapered rather than painted, usually in a large soft flowery pattern. Look through some Homes magazines at WH Smith or somewhere with a good choice and where they won't bother you while you look through them all.
To anybody who lived in old RAF houses magnolia was the only colour they used.
If you go to the Crown paint web site, there is a decorating programe that you can download where you can paint walls in different colours and see how it looks, it's quite usefull
