Have small back bedroom over the kitchen. Slate roof, double glazed window and one radiator. when it it cold, especially now with bad weather, the walls feel damp. Now am finding the wall which is exposed the most is constantly wet to the point the paper is coming off when i try and wipe the walls. Ive tried the damp seal paint this summer and a sealant on the outside brickwork all to no avail. Would an airbrick help or do you think a dehumidifier is the anwer. Am at my wits end and not much money to start expensive works.
It does sound as if you need to find a way of insulating these walls.
The moisture you refer to is not coming through from the outside - it is water vapour in your house from breathing, cooking, washing etc. condensing on the inside because the surface temperature of that surface is very low.
hi, i see this is an old question but i hope i can answer it. Firstly, it sounds like your back room is solid wall, without a cavity? Unless the EXTERIOR is weatherproofed in some way, like a wall coating or maybe rendering or something, the damp will continue. Dont bother trying to damp proof inside, it is waste of time.
