Wooden Work Tops

Left oil on for too long, and now all the worktops are so sticky. Tried washing off with Fairy liquid and White vinegar, as well as kitchen cleaner/spray but still too thick and sticky. How can I get rid of this sticky top layer of oil ? Thanks all

Try meths. Don't smoke or light the cooker whilst using!

Get rid of the wooden worktops - they're a health hazard.

Had the same thing in one of my local pubs recently. They'd made the mistake of applying the oil with a brush, so it was much too thick.

I used a cabinet scraper. It's basically a flat blade that you pull towards you to scrape the oil excess off. If you dismantle a carpenter's plane and take the blade out, that works just as well. :o)

How are they a health hazard?

Maybe try wire wool.

I had the same problem with my oak kitchen worktops even though I used the recomended oil and applicator (a foam brush). I never did solve it completely. some info here..
