Re meeting today, hours in the Bridlington Hospital Dining Room being cut, so less staff etc in here and the Kitchen. Buying Cook and chill foods instead on all our lovely home made meals and cakes.
Weve been expecting them to cut our weekends as we`re not as busy as we used to be, but what they are proposing is drastic. Most of us will have to move to another postition within the NHS organisation and if job can be found its the inevitable redundancy. The earliest all this can happen is Feb 2014, and although I can officially retire then I wasnt planning to but a new career may be on the cards.
We`re all devestated as are the staff who eat in the Dining Room.
OH doesnt know what gone on yet. He`ll be upset too for me.

make sure you get your redundency rather than taking retirement, or will you have no option?

I told them ages ago that I wont be retiring in Feb, I shall hang on and see what happens after that and maybe be made redundant
What a shame...not just your job situation...but rubbish food is taking over. Cutting corners to save money.
It's all about money. Peoples' lively-hood are no longer taken into consideration.
It's bad enough hanging around a hossie....if you can not get something decent to eat as well...know how that is and its awful....
Isn't all this cook, chill stuff the thing that TV chef James Martin has been trying to have removed from hospital catering? Such a waste of skills being wasted on what basically would be regarded as ready meals. Hope things go well for you, make sure you go for redundancy though

Thanks all. We cant do anything till we know exactly what jobs are left etc and have to apply for them if we want them.
Its very annoying too that the two Unions involved are helping everyone concerned ( I know it sounds petty) but about 3 people have never been in a any of these unions and never paid any dues but are still getting the advice so why have I been paying into a union for 12 years ??
