Stomach Bloating
9 Answers
I went to the doctors a few weeks ago as my stomach was really bloated and hard, I felt I looked about 4 months pregnant ,he sent me for an ultrasound and luckily everything came back fine. He thinks its IBS which is causing gas build up, he has given me some tablets which so far haven't really done anything. Does anyone else have similar problems and if so what helps. Thanks.

No more toast, oat breakfast instead, and no more sandwiches or baguettes, soups, salads or rice cakes instead. It wasn't easy, nearly as difficult as giving up smoking but it has made a huge difference to me.
It may not be bread .I suffer with IBS and it's a case of trial and error as to what makes you bloated .I used to eat brown bread and loads of fibre thinking it was good for me but my doctor told me you can overdo the fibre .
I now only eat white bread and it doesn't affect the IBS .
Dairy is my bugbear .Anything milky .I can no longer drink cows milk and have oat or almond .Look at what you are eating ,keep a food diary and see what foods seem to trigger the bloating and then cut them out .
Drink peppermint tea ....that'll shift anything :)

No I don't suffer from IBS.
Drs diagnosis seems reasonable.

Elimination diets can be quite extreme but good if you can find a trigger. Certain foods are more renown for causing issues in IBS and for causing gas build up - there are diets like the FODMAP diet to try to help with that.
Some are more obvious (your "farty" veg) but there are more ideas as to those kinds of foods here:
