Earlier today I was in a shop standing at the back of a queue of 3. The woman in front of me was about 60, very smartly dressed with perfectly applied make-up and she looked normal. She was clutching a draught excluder. She turned to me and her speech to me went as follows:
"I'm buying this draught excluder. I'm not buying it because I have a draught, although there is a big gap under the door. I am buying it to save daddy's books. Mice come under the gap in the door and I have daddy's books piled up there to stop them getting in. It does make it awkward when I want to leave the room because daddy had a lot of books and I have them all piled up against the door. I shout and tell the mice not to go in the room when I am out of it. But now all my problems are solved as I shall lay this draught excluder against the door and there is no way the mice can get past it."

At this point I suddenly "remembered" I needed something else from a distant corner of the shop, and I left the queue.

>>>and she looked normal Oh come off it, Mrs_O. You're not really expecting us to believe that YOU have any concept of normality, are you? ;-)

I know, and I can run REALLY fast ;o)
I've already started running, Mazie!

;-)
i want to know how you finished up at the back of a queue of three
almost as good as getting on a bus one evening after attending a concert, it was late ish, and found myself propping up this totally drunk bloke, every time i tried to gently put him into a seat, he just clung on harder,
he gave me a rose and told me he loved me, lovely. his breath would have killed a dragon.
Charming, that's the last time I give you a rose,em.
i wouldn't have minded so much, but one or two others on the bus didn't come to my aid, he wasn't rude or anything, just blotto. if he had puked over me that would have been a whole different story. the rose was nice though

It's what 60+yr old women do!!
When I am manic I 'am' that strange person. I don't have mice or a draught excluder though.
Pssst, wanna but some draught excluder, mrs?

Going cheap... it's not missing bits, it was a mouse - honest guv.
Mrs 'O' Does, she's just claiming to be the other shopper that disappeared to the back of the store.
Mrs O, I'm the same. I have a bit of a reputation amongst my friends and family that anywhere we go in public, i WILL pick up the random nutter and have a 45 minute conversation with a total stranger ( and i expect neither of us understands it).
I think some people are lonely and the only contact they may have is chatting to someone in a queue.
Down sarf we say I am a "dolly magnet" i.e. all dolly dimples seek me out to talk to me about all sorts of bizzare stuff on buses, trains etc, once on a coach holiday I was making polite conversation with a mother & son and they stuck to me like glue for the whole week never been on one again.
Oh dee sa, I would absolutely hate that, I can't bear people invading my space. What a horrible thing to happen on your trip, why can't people realise when they are overstepping the mark? It is at times like this I wish I wasn't such an accommodating person as I am sure you did too!
the reason being pips1 is that they are a tad simple and don't realise what they are doing could offend and its not in my nature to be rude to people like that, they even changed tables so we could eat together.
