I love it. It is refreshing to see a sitcom that is traditional - embarrassing dad, common sense mum, outrageous daughter, sensible sibling, dopey boyfriend/girlfriend, funny nana (it could almost be The Royle Family) - with an ethnic twist.
I love that it shows Muslims as being Pakistani, Somalian, English and I think there is a Nigerian portrayed as well.
There is nothing racist about it. It is inclusive. If it is okay to show The Royle Family, Father Ted, Bread, Terry and June, The Good Life, Pat and Cabbage, Stella, Early Doors, The Cafe, Rev - all of which lampoon daily life, why should Muslims or any other class of British society be excluded?
It makes me laugh, not because it pokes fun at Muslims but because it pokes fun at family life. It is ridiculous, it is slapstick, it is unrealistic but as a lifelong fan of British sitcom I find it amusing.
Even the government of Pakistan approved the show, in response to some criticism, because it IS inclusive.
