1980's Film? Name that film... its bugging me!

I'm trying to find the name to a film:
It's about a boy of about 10 years old who finds a spaceship and then flys around in it.
He's fallen out with his family and the spaceship talks him into forgiving them, but he wakes up and it was all a dream
and the end is he goes out on a walk with his family to watch fireworks.
The space ship is silver, small and really fast and plays the beach boys.
If I remember correctly it has a bit of a weird name.
