How do you get galleries to show your photos

Hi I have an interest and hobby in photography and enjoy taking photos of native american reservations etc, how can/do I approach book publishers or galleries and offer them my work to show or publish in a book?

The Writers and Artists Year Book is full of uesful addresses of publishers. For galleries you should check out a few of the ones that regularly show Photography and Illustration and then pitch to them. If you are a new and untried artist/photographer the chances are you will need to meet all the costs of putting on the exhibition yourself and the gallery will take a comission on any work you sell during the show. Another useful place, just to gain experience is your local library.

...sorry I shouls have added; You simply write to the gallery outlining your proposal, show them a few prints and see what happens.
