I don't think I am, any more. Most people wanting to get on the homeowner ladder can't afford to raise the deposit. Easier to rent and have the landlord responsible for roof repairs, etc.
I'm not that surprised. Housing is ridiculously expensive. I expect the trend will continue to move towards renting, as a lot of people just won't be able to afford it.
about one third tenants, that's more than I thought. I suppose it includes a lot of young people starting out before buying their first mansion.

I was surprised that 11 out of the top 12 were former Soviet countries. Didn't expect that.
maybe people were just given (or just took) their homes when the iron curtain came down, I don't know
According to this list China has 90% which I fins surprising.

Jno. If you read ( and understand) this then maybe you could give us an explanation.

Actually 11 of the top 12 are former socialist (rather than Soviet) countries - explained by the fact that many people bought their houses/apartments cheaply.

In fact the top three are, surprise, suprise, the three latest members of the EU!
Russia itself isn't in the list. According to this

Russians are scared of taking out loans and defaulting
It's in mine. Which to believe. Mmm.
the three Baltic states were all in the Soviet Union
"Russians are scared of taking out loans and defaulting "

That is certainly a reason why Germans don't take mortgages.

"the three Baltic states were all in the Soviet Union "

Ah just seen what you are getting at. I meant that the 11 are all former socialist, rather than all former soviet.
Russia's not on the list because it's not in the EU or about to be.
Wonder if the Romanians will declare their monies when they arrive on our shores.
it seems to be an all-Europe list, ichkeria (Norway and Switzerland are on it). Russia's commonly accepted as European but perhaps, like Turkey, too much of its territory was thought to be in Asia.
I'm not surprised at all . We are not talking about 3 bed semis as in the UK.
In eastern europe most people live in tiny poor quality apartments in
tower blocks. In many cases these were virtually given away after the collapse of socialism. Nobody would want to buy them.
some may well be built with money from begging, thievery, and benefit fraud, great can we all play

We have a few more tenants than I would have thought, but apart from that I'm not particularly surprised by the table.
try and buy a decent home in the capital, you won't get much in the centre, all snapped up with investment companies and those with enough dosh to splash out half a million or more on if you are lucky a two bed former council flat, if a new build and there are some going up, they are mostly private builds.
small sample, i had a look at another site but the prices started at 2 million
