I'm halfway between Geordieland and Yorkshireland and we'd call a layer of fish inbetween two layers of potato a Pattie.

Never heard of a dab.....
Has anyone ever had a gravy chip? As its name suggests it's a chip with a ladle of gravy poured over it. Surprisingly tasty and filling, especially after a few pints.
What, just 1 chip Sandy?
another staple up here in the north SandyRoe, gravy and chips, lovely, especially after a few bevvies,as you say.

Your all making my mouth water. Some really good food stuff there.
I personally would love the potato and batter deep fried and no fish!
Lol, heart attack on its way if you eat it every day!
:-) No, a portion of chips. It was tasty but messy too
The pattie was invented in East Yorkshire, Hull to be exact, in 1885.
It is a herby (thyme, I think) mashed potato cake, dipped in batter and fried.
Kids usually got pattie and chips, whilst the adults got fish and chips.

To me, what you have there ferlew, is a Fishcake, and not a pattie.
Stephen, there is NO fish in a pattie from Hull.
