The quoted words amount to a set cliche used by judges. They have to explain why, for example, someone with no previous is being jailed immediately or why alternative sentences have been rejected. So they say 'so serious' even though the robbery was what we joklngly call "aggravated begging", rather than a planned robbery with use of weapons and serious injury, the kind that gets you 5 years as a starting point.

Another non-story from the Mail.

It's identical to another one they quoted where muggers attacked some men dressed as women, to mug them, and the men turned out to be cage fighters in drag for a stag party, with obvious results.

It helps Mail readers feel a little bit better about themselves, seeing what they love to perceive as 'rough justice' - sad really.

You are looking at this from the perspective of someone with a mind of his own who thinks ahead and understands that actions have consequences, and can learn from a simple mistake, and not repeat it.

People like these two individuals simply react to what happens to them, they don't think ahead, they probably don't think at all.

It would be great to think that either the violence they received, or the incarceration would turn them away from crime, but it is highly unlikely.

If they had the level of intelligence to understand and learn from their esxperiences, they wouldn't have committed the crime in the first place.
