Does anyone know ther legislation regarding the parking of caravans in the stree. One of our neighbours has had a caravan parked outside our flat in the street for 3 years without moving, they dont have a car! They never use it. As we are on the ground floor I feel it is an obstruction, also takes up parking spaces. They dont pay tax or insurance, why should they get to use the public highway for free parking!! Anyway, the police have said there is nothing they can do as it is illegally parked, does anyone knoiw what local authority legislation is??

Illegally parked?? Or do you mean legally parked?

It needs to be insured if not connected to an insured car. If the police are not interested report it to The Highways Dept at your local town hall.

Or maybe ask the owners??

Without sounding condescending it is little things like this that cause neighborhood disputes that go on years.

Thanks for the non condescending answer, however I have spoken to said neighbour, got a mouthful of abuse. My flat is on the ground floor facing the main road. Where I am facing there is minimal light as it is, however with a caravan in the street, literally 10 feet from where I am sitting right now perhaps you will understand my frustration and realise it is not a "little thing". If it had been getting used now and again then fair enough, but, it hasnt moved for 3 years. Thanks anyway.
do you have any mates with a tow bar on their car? not that i'd condone waiting till the owners gone away, then towing it to a place were the council will dispose of it quickly. 'cos that would be WRONG!!!
And of course a small fire would be a terrible thing aswell. I would not, under any circumstances, condone such behaviour.
Seriously though, I dont know where you live but round here we have Street Environment Officers who deal with this sort of thing. Go onto your local council website and look up Environmental Services. The Dibble wont want to know but the Council may be able to sort it.

pat good point well presented.

Again not that i would ever condone lies but if you told the Police that kids have been seen playing on it and you believe they will be hurt or even killed if it is not removed, and you want a reference number to quote if this happens. You never know!!!!

Good luck.
