Why do Burton employ old women? This really can't do much for their image as a cool and trendy clothing store can it?

Probably because older women are generally more reliable and less intimidating than their younger counterparts.

Since when has Burton been a cool and trendy store?
Older people are generally more reliable, hard-working and trustworthy than youngsters.

Some stores/companies deliberately employ older women because they want to avoid the hassle of dealing with younger women's career breaks.

There was an article in one of the broadsheets about it last year.

From a woman's point of view (so I guess it won't apply to Burton that much) I hate nothing more than some bored, nail-filing, girl serving me. And I certainly wouldn't ask her for an opinion on clothing - give me the motherly older lady anytime!

Rather have a nice young long legged big bosomed bimbo serving me any time! Not that I wud ever venture into Burtons. Buy all my designer clothes at ASDA!
