Just watched a recording of his programme on the 18th. He did a plough mans with bread he baked. They were mini loaves. Do you remember buying minute brown loaves from the bakers many many years ago?

sort of glorified buns really, weren't they?
Question Author
Well I suppose they were but the novelty was they were mini loaves.
I seem to remember them served with cheese instead of crackers, but memory not too reliable here, I may be thinking of loaf-shaped biscuits!
well, I seem to have 3 of the 6 latest posts so I shall go to bed before I crash the internet.

So you did Mamya, I don't remember that one. It was GR that sparked this off
Oh yes, penny loaves from the bakery on Plodder Lane and never mind what your Mum said about not eating bread straight from the oven.
I also recall the dilemma after swimming, walk home and have a pasty, or catch the bus. Often we would buy a pasty, get on the bus at the terminus when the conductor wasn't there and crouch down on the front seat of the top deck. Usually got away with it.
they were Hovis weren't they ?
Yes, they were hovis. I also remember going to the Ideal Home Exhibition many years ago and coming home with some from there.
yes weren't they little hovis loaves ?
Dad used to bring home 6 1d hovis loaves on payday, and a quarter of milkmaid chocolate toffees. Bliss.
