I'm 54 and a 1/3 and my mum died when I was 12 and from 12-16 my dad was violent towards me until I managed to leave home. I think childhood
experiences affect us in our adult life more than we realise.
Never BB. When I was eight I got tied to a lamp post with my skipping rope by my then boyfriend, no-one has ever done that to me again! (Just finished the Shades of Grey series).
I let my childhood influence me (in a big way) until my early twenties and gradually got on top of it. The big change came when I used the negatives of my childhood to influence how I was going to raise my children (ie completely differently). To be honest, I felt a weight was lifted when my mother died.
everything that's ever happened to us affects us; it makes us what we are. That's how we learn and grow up. A lot of stuff gets crowded out by more recent events, but if things were striking enough, they'll stay with us longer.
