Blue Smoke Coming Out Of Exhaust
My Toyota Celica has just failed its MOT on the emissions test. The mechanic said it was throwing blue smoke out from around 3000 revs upwards. He said at worst it could be the piston rings and it would need a new engine, but then he recommended trying some stuff to pour in the fuel tank which can clean any blockages etc. He named some stuff by forte which had very good results but I cant remember exactley what it is called. Any ideas please? I've spent a lot of money on fixing this car up and I really don't want to have to scrap it just yet!

Its done 140000 miles now but it does have a full service history. The mechanice did say it is burning oil. I topped it up about 4 weeks ago, maybe I put too much in? I top the oil up roughly every 5/6 months and always use full synthetic.

If there's blue smoke when the engine is under load it is likely to be worn cylinders, pistons or rings. Your engine has covered a high mileage.
If you drive down a long hill with the throttle closed, then floor the pedal for a few seconds, blue smoke from the exhaust will likely indicate worn inlet/exhaust valves.
