Word Count Problem

My PC is only 3 months old. I write a lot of essays and use the word count to keep within my limits. Over the past couple of weeks, when I highlight an essay, it often comes to a stop before the end. Any clues? i just do it in chunks but would like it to go back to doing it properly.

If you're doing it on Word it should count them all without them being highlighted.

Click Tools tab, then Word Count. Does that work? No need to highlight anything.
