I have taken out my bath and will be replacing it with a bath length shower tray in the recess.

The enclosure has two fixed sides and sliding doors in the middle. My problem is that is it 2" short so it needs some sort of baton, fixing either side.

Is there anything on the market suitable? Or is it a codge it job

Ah...... I see. Thanks Mamy.

Glass FRONT panels each side of the door.

Depends on the style of the room, hc. If traditional type room/decor, then maybe 25mm thick piece of joinery oak each side. Then fix the frame to that.

Thanks, builder, that's what I thought. I was kind of hoping there was some purpose built gizmo but I'll go down the oak route.

Thanks for your time, again
Or ................ if a more modern, trendier style, then go for either chromed, or better still, stainless steel box section each side...........

Oh! Now I do like the look of that. Is it easy to work with?
I thought you might......... :o)))))

A nice sharp 4mm drill bit to make the fixing holes. Always use a new bit if unsure. A blunt one will almost melt.

Ordinary screws and fixings to fit the pieces to the wall (red rawl-plugs if into tiles.)
Then maybe a 3mm bit drilled through the frame, into the steel. Decent looking self-tappers to fix the frame to the steel. You won't need anything too agricultural. A bead of silicone on both sided (inside and out) will do most of the holding.

I've never had much success hacksawing SS. I use a 100mm mini angle grinder with a metal disc. The cut edge will need hiding. A bead of silicone will do that.

I see (in my steel link) that they do a 25 x 50mm section. That should do it.

Much appreciated, thanks :)
... been having a re-think about the silicone.
You may prefer not to interrupt the clean lines of the frame and steel with a white bead.
Either use clear........... or, better still, bed the SS section onto the tiles with a good bead of silicone so that it's hidden.
Do the same with the door frame....... silicone between the frame and SS so it's hidden.
That's it. Not cheap, but will look really good. Worth the money.

Hi,hc4361,I'm thinking of replacing my bath with a shower.I need to start looking around to see what is available but I liked your choice.Could you give me details of stockist ,etc, please?Bathroom is tiled so tiles will have to come off. Don't know whether to re-tile or put the solid stuff (can't remember the name) in the shower enclosure.Thank you for any advice.
Question Author
Why would the tiles have to come off? I haven't taken mine off. I bought they enclosure with tray from eBay.

The shower tray is VERY heavy.
Sorry for the delay in answering,hc4361.Thank you very much for the info.I'll have to ask the plumber if it mightn't be too heavy for the type of flooring in my house. Thanks again.
Question Author
A bathful of water would probably be heavier.
Question Author
After all that, the shower is in and nearly up and running - just waiting for the grouting to dry off properly.
Must say it looks fantastic even though I went for the (much) cheaper option of baton and tiling.

Thanks for all the advice.
