Weird Message On Itv + 1 Tonight

As I didn't get in till late I had to watch the remainder of the football on ITV + 1 and at half time I had a weird message before and after the ads 'If you can see this message it is not legal to watch this channel in your area'. As we pay the TV licence for Freeview (which I was watching it on) that would not be valid anyway, but I haven't seen anyone else here mention it but thousands of other people would have seen it as well and not known what was going on. Does anyone here know?

There are occasions when a programme is not allowed to be shown on a +1 channel.

It could have just been an error in showing that message.

That message crops up sometimes on the +1 channels, to do with copyright I believe. We ignore it if the programme continues and watch it!

Your licence fee goes to BBC so will not affect what messages ITV put out.

Without checking the law I can't be certain, but telling people they can't watch something but still showing it doesn't look reasonable to me so wouldn't be enforceable if law or not. I suppose contacting ITV would get the definitive answer but would probably get more trouble that way than not bothering.
