Can anybody tell me if you can play PS2 games on a Play station 3

It depends how old your PS3 is.
If it's fairly new, no but if it's proper old school, yes, depending on the model.

Ok the first few ps3 consoles were backwards compatible. Even then some games would not work. After a shirt while song just stopped making the consoles that way so most ps3 consoles cannot play ps2 games. It's cheap enough to pick up a ps2 anyway so I'd recommend just getting a newer ps3 and a second hand ps2.
