Speeding fine...

I was doing 73mph on a 70mph road. Unfortunately it was down to a temporary 50mph zone due to roadworks. What fine am i likely to receive??

I don't think the road limit/vehicle speed differential makes any difference except in the event of a court prosecution for a more serious offence. The "standard" speeding fine right now is �60, plus 3 Penalty Points on your licence.

It depends whether you were flashed at!! If you were and it was a single flash- then it was just a warning. If it was a double flash then for the sum of �60 your local constabulary will kindly give you 3 penalty points! The camerars in roadworks are often left at 70mph unless they are mobile ones

From my recent vicarious experience you're likeley to get 4 points rather than 3. The facts are almost identical.

TommyC, I'm afraid I totally disagree. Temporary speed limits on 70mph roads are treated very seriously. Certainly in this neck of the woods you'd have problems, especially if you're driving a taxi.

I think Toffee is right. It's nearly 50% over the limit and I doubt if you'll get less than 4 or 5 points and �100 at least. That is if you did get caught

Very much depends where. And it used to be that up to 25mph over the limit was a fixed penalty, 25-30 over was a court fixed fine, and 30+ over was a likely ban. This may not still be relevant, but hope for a fixed penalty anyway.

Looks like that nice man in swansea will be looking after your licience for 3 weeks.Theres a big clamp down on speeding in roadworks,because hard as it may seem people work in roadworks and there is a chance they can be hit and end up in hospital.

Were you driving in Bedforshire when you were caught, as if you were this may be of some help Good news for some... If you were caught speeding by a remote speed camera in a temporary speed restricted zone while passing through Bedfordshire in the last year, you may have cause to claim for damages against the Bedfordshire HQ Highways Agency. It has been revealed that more than a year ago the the Highways Agency scrapped the Senior Executive Officer grade. This is the only grade that has authority to issue temporary speed limits on behalf of the Secretary of State. This means the Bedford Highways Agency could not legally set any temporary speed limits. But senior staff at Bedford Highways Agency have continued to authorise orders for temporary speed limits despite being stripped of their legal powers more than a year ago. If anyone wants to challenge a speeding conviction handed down within the last 12 - 14 months, they have a pretty good chance of overturning the conviction. i dont think it was bedfordshire. it was on the M62 just before the Ferrybridge services (the A1, M62 junction). Luckily for me its been 12days so unless it comes either tomorrow or Sunday morning i've got away with it. They have to notify you within 14days. plus, even if it does arrive i've been told to burn it. it's only 1st class post, you don't need to sign for it so you could easily say it didn't come through the post and they can do nothing about it due to the 14 day notification period
