What does your policy say?
If you didn't report it to the police then who are the insurance company to ask. Address the problem area where they tried to break in and hopefully you won't have to make a claim.

I've never been asked about attempted break ins, only about previous claims.
You do not have to declare any attempted or actual break ins to your insurance company. I have just taken out buildings and contents insurance and at no time was i asked about break ins. Only about the house, the contents, how long is it unoccupied and any previous claims.
Ps I hope all's OK after your attempted break in and nothing lost.
THERE IS NO HARM IN DECLARING IT. If it's a material fact that puts your insurance up, then obviously you should have declared it, and they may refuse to pay out in a later claim if it transpires you didn't declare. If it's something you don't have to declare, you won't be charged any extra
An unsuccessful break in is surely a point in your favour?
I've never been asked about past break-ins, only about what defences I have now. They'll already have their indicators about crime in your area, so crime in your actual house won't change that, as long as they're content with what locks and bars you have. Unless there's something specific in the T&C, I wouldn't bother telling them.
yeah jno

Behind the geraniums, I have those jumping mines that explode at chest height. Not many casualties - per week that is !
