Adjusting Double Glazed Upcv Door

Hi everyone,

Trying to adjust a plastic door. when shut it has a gap at the top and side on the opposite side to the hinges, the gap makes the door stick out from the frame about 15mm, just enough to let the wind pour through and you can see daylight. I looked on you tube, but it appears that some doors have rollers and they pull it shut. this door does not, it has big hooks top and bottom that lock it shut, but nothing to pull the door into the frame for a tight fit. It appears to have adjusters on the hinges, one seems to slide the door horizontally, the appears to raise the door upwards. these are allen screws. there is also a self tapping type screw that seems to lock the hinge cover. any ideas please?

15mm Annie? That's a lot. You're right about the horizontal and vertical adjustments, but I'd be very surprised if they could handle 15mm.

Difficult without being there, but I would guess either the frame has gone out of position, or the door has warped.

The usual test (for the door) is to look along it from the lock side (holding the door open), and try to see any distortion.

I wonder if there is any way that the frame can be unscrewed from the surround (brickwork?), so that it can be re-fixed?

I had a similar problem with my DG front door and I got the fitters back to sort it. I was fascinated when they took the door to bits to adjust the construction to make it fit again - I wouldn't have considered it needed internal adjustment, it wasn't the hinges at all. If I were you I'd get someone in to look at it.

Frame does not appear to have moved, as it is rendered and painted, and still in same position, no gaps or cracks. We have just noticed door must have dropped, as the lip overhang at the top is barely enough for the door to meet the frame when shut and pushed hard to close the gap. perhaps the door could be warped, its about ten years old. all we wanted to do was stop the draught, but now looks like it may need new door and frame. will go for wood next time, hate white boring plastic doors.

It sounds as though you do need a new one Annie.......... unless you do what Boxers suggested and have someone look at it. Worth a shot :o)

Cheers builder, it was nothing at all to do with the frame, I was impressed to see inside the door itself how it's constructed, little wedges hidden inside to make sure everything fits etc. I'd still say get a man out - are they still in warranty (mine have a 10-year warranty). The chap who came to me told me that they regularly have to adjust doors after fitting - the weight of the door can cause slippage in the component parts over time, or so he told me!
