I'm slightly better now than when I last asked for advice. However I now find that when I break off (cue ball between brown and yellow, hit the top right hand red with right hand side, cue ball comes back somewhere near baulk) ONE red comes out the left hand side of the triangle, my friend who is quite good promptly pots it, is then on the black and before I know it i'm at least eight points behind. This happens time and again and I'm fed up of it. Anyone give me some advice please?

Of course, if you leave the cue ball tight on the baulk cushion, with the colours blocking most possible lines to the other end of the table, it won't matter if there are one or two loose reds anyway:

(i.e. if you worry less about the number of reds that you'll release, and concentrate more on where the cue ball will finish, you might improve your game).

Tooj as a league player of over 40 years you are doing the correct break but your friend does seem a good player, might I suggest when breaking just miss the pack on the right with left hand side not to hard and the white will come to rest in the back of the pack, that should give him something to think about, good luck

The top snooker players tend to focus on getting a good, safe, white -- tight on the baulk cushion, or even behind one of the baulk colours. So focus on where the white ends up, rather than on what happens to the reds. You won't get it right every time -- but then neither do the professionals.

You of course are right jim360 but i think tooj
just wanted to try something different, i don't
think his friend will pot to many with the white
tight on the reds. But if it is touching ball his
friend could send him back up the table
