Just starting now. Sounds like it will be interesting and shocking.

I think she should bear some responsibili ty for what happened to those children. If Ed Balls hadn't sacked her what would have happened? Public opinion was that she should have been aware of the events, and pay the price for not doing her job. Disgraceful.

jno, on that premise no one is ever responsible
Not at all. Someone may well be responsible. But we don't know who. Since Balls jumped the gun, we may never know.
Care to name any other department leaders in the same position, or explain why nobody's calling for their heads? If there are no names and no explanation, then Shoesmith is being scapegoated - somehow having to take the blame for the failings of all social workers everywhere.

She even had the affront to want her old job back, but decided against it at the last minute.
The woman has not a shred of shame nor common decency.

Other people were sacked, and some resigned. She failed to take responsibility as the person ultimately in charge.
I actually think Balls was genuinely aghast at her seeming lack of shame in this respect and tried to do the right thing and kick her out. Unfortunately it turns out he didn't have the right to do this, so the child's death has indirectly turned into a nice little earner for her.
All of which proves that there is no god.
