Just had my weekly shop delivered by a certain supermarket.

The driver (a lovely man) was a bit shaken, on asking if he was ok he told me that he had just been assaulted by the previous customer because he didn't like his substitutions!

What is that about!!

To be fair TheOtherHalf, a person expects to get what they've paid for.
The police and the supermarket should definitely be informed and hopefully the supermarket will ban them ......
I once ordered some 60w bayonet light bulbs............they were substituted with 60w screw in ones.
Wolf we have one of thosewords too weirdshit!

Yes, society people do expect to get what you pay for, but you also expect to go about your day's work without some nutjob attacking you for it.

It's a risk you take when doing online supermarket shopping. Sometimes they won't have what you have asked for and will send an alternative product. They will charge you the lower price and you can always refuse it at point of delivery.
I realise that Society, but surely if they ring up the supermarket and say its not what they ordered and request a refund on their next bill. Im sure if the SM had to do this too often they will make sure they send out the correct items

Excellent replacement, crafty!

I've had different sized batteries delivered before.

It's almost entertaining finding out just what the staff at the store think is a suitable substitute.
theotherhalf - substitutions are fine and sometimes work out to our advantage but some substitutions are actually bizarre. I ordered smoked salmon and got a tin of salmon instead.
2sp, I wasn't directing my comment towards the attacker.

I was addressing TheOtherHalf's comment - " Its a shame that some people are far too demanding of everything being so correct today. "
2 sides to every story.
I've often enjoyed the substitutions more than the original order.......
Ive never ordered food online and now, I know I never will ( or hope I never have to ) Perhaps the drivers could carry a personal alarm with them too ( or the supermarket will give them a whistle) just in case. Shouldnt joke. I feel sorry for those who get attacked just for doing their job. many a time its not their fault that things go wrong.

Apologies, society. That will teach me to type before reading properly!

No probs :)
This MUST be reported to the police - there is no place for such behaviour in a civilised society.

Substitutions do not have to be accepted, and also you can specify no subs on your original order (this applies to Sainsbury's but I'm sure the others follow suit). And anyway it's not the Driver who selects the substitutes, it's the Pickers.
You can refuse the substitutes at the door and they are deducted from your bill - that said as others say, often the subs are better and price matched too.

Poor driver !

I really felt bad for him, he was shaken up by it all but still trying to be professional and deliver my shopping (substitutes included!).

I really hope he does report it to the police. I was his last delivery before he headed back to the store, so hopefully someone will have had a wee visit from the local police by now.
Hi 2sp, poor man! These drivers have a difficult enough job as it is delivering to a busy schedule & at times awkward drops. I hope as has already been said his account with the supermarket is terminated. Absolutely no excuse to treat someone this way.
