We still have no electric after 48hrs. We have now been told that it is likely to be the end of the week before its back up running. :-(
So both I and my mother (who lives next door) are affected. I am now expecting our freezer's contents to be in a puddle by this evening.
Can we claim compensation from Netpower (I think that's our chaps) or do we have to claim on household insurance and suffer the increased tariff next year?
Thank you! Wasn't too bad the first night, Dunkirk spirit and all that... but now its becoming a real problem. May have to book my mum into a hotel for the night just so she has at least one night of complete warmth!!
I think you would have to claim from your household ins. It's not the power companies fault, they can't be blamed for the storm. I know that it's awful for you with no power and you have all my sympathy but I feel sure that the power company are doing all that they can to restore it. They aren't getting any revenue if you aren't using it. I hope you don't have to wait too much longer. What area are you in? I know we have some people around here that have been out since yesterday morning.
We are in Writtle, Chelmsford. One blessing is that we have an elderly persons complex down the road and the home and the bungalows all have power. At least that's something :-)
There is a compensation scheme - but whether it applies in these circumstances I don't know. The weather was the original cause - and hence outside the company's control - but the length of time to repair is more their 'fault'
You can but ask them
It would be a set amount, not related to the value of what's in the freezer
Poor you...happened to me in the big storm 1987....no power for nearly a week....had to claim on house insurance .....local pub got the contents of freezers in exchange for bed and breakfast...
