Because we don't live in caves! I don't know of anyone staying in a cave to see if they can find ghosts. Perhaps it's too cold!

I think you all missed the point. The question should be: Why are ghost sightings always alledged to be of humans? You never hear people talking about the fact that they have seen a ghost of a horse, a tiger, a fish etc... Probably because its all twaddle!!

Come to think of it no one ever sees ordinary people, they are always noblemen and women or Generals etc.

carolegif - cavemen did leave their caves occasionally! they roamed all over.
ghosts don't only occur where they lived.
apparently they are 'recorded' by the land itself - thats why they walk through walls, because in their day, the wall wasn't there.

perhaps though, if these things are merely recordings and they are just replaying scenes from their life, as is a common theory, ice age cavemen would be walking around way above our heads, at the height of the ice, and others may be under the ground in the layers of sediment over the thousands of years

See Quatermass & the Pit - ghost cavemen coming through the walls all over the place. As for non-humanoids - there are loads of dogs, and a famous bear incident at the Tower of London. Doesn't seem like the portals are big enough for elephants though...

I'm pleased to say that I have encountered only two ghosts, one being a caveman and the other a halibut. So it is not true to say that people NEVER see cavemen ghosts and do not see fish ghosts. They are the only sort I believe in!

There are no such thing as ghosts. Ghosts being a separate part of a person that survives death as a spirit and can function through haunting. The Bible says that nothing survives death, Ecclesiastes 9; 5,6 [ 5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.] NO PORTION ANYMORE.
