Where do the feathers for pillows and duvets come from? Do they come from birds slaughtered for the food market or are they plucked from live birds?

Would this help? http://www.canada-goose.com/faq/ You need to be very wary of the source of the down. I only ever buy Canadian down products. Not advertising, just my principle.

I have a image of Hungarian geese waddling around wearing wooly jumpers waiting for their down and feathers to regrow :-)
True eiderdowns are filled with the soft feathers of the eider duck. The bird lines its nest with them. When the nests are abandoned after use, people harvest the feathers.

Plucking a live bird of any kind is a little difficult !
I don't think a plucked live bird would stay live for very long. What a horrible thought.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds as if some companies do live pluck one must research the product. When someone told me the birds were live plucked I didn't believe her and felt quite sick.
Aargh, I'd not heard about live plucking - that's revolting. At the least the birds survive, unlike the evil trade in raccoon dog skinning alive in China, for the fashion trade. That haunted me for months (and still does).
