Should I Take My Cat To The Vets?

Today I have noticed my cat has a kink at the end of his tail that wasnt previously there. He doesnt appear to be in any pain and is still eating and jumping about etc. He doesn't like it if you try to touch it though, doesnt cry out or anything just runs off. If he has injured it is it likely to heal on its own or will it need any treatment?

Perhaps ring the vets and ask their advice

Could be an abscess, perhaps been "clooked" (can't think of the English) by another cat.

It could be the outcome of a bite or a fight - other cats' bites can quickly become infected. Take him to the vet just to find out what's causing it.

The only problem with ringing the vet and asking their advice is they tend to say that they can't make a diagnosis over the phone, and will ask you to bring the cat in and be seen - at any rate, that is what our vet does. So it looks like you might have a trip to the vets coming up. It's probably best to get it seen.

Sounds as though he has been in a fight.

i think it is an injury and it will heal on it's own.

I wouldn't take him to the Vets.

Cats are 'difficult' animals when it comes to illhealth and injuries.

Any attempt to give medication is rejected by the patient and injury may result to the human involved.

Cats are also cautious about showing weakness and this includes injury or pain. If you are the least bit suspicious that there may be a hidden injury it is worth taking him to the vet.

I had to rush my little boy to the vet on Monday due to his asthma. He was healthy and demanding food on Monday night. I am still frazzled and wearing injuries on my arms.

I had to take No. 1 Son last Friday because he was limping. Seems it could be early onset arthritis (he's 14). Drugs are helping, thank goodness for pet insurance :-)

Thanks everyone. The kink has reduced a lot now and although it's there slightly it really isn't bothering him so I guess it's just one of those things!
