I have an open coal fire in my living room. I find that the ashpan burns out very quickly and I need to replace it every 5 - 6 weeks when the fire is in use. Can anyone recommend a very tough longer lasting type of ashpan?Any help suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

have you tried lining it with heavy duty foil, maybe double layered

Hello Birdfeeder. No, I didn't know about that at all. I certainly will have a go at that. Thanks very much for the suggestion.
Your fire must be generating a heck of a heat to burn the ashpan!

Hello Heathfield. Thanks for your comment. Yes it does throw out a lot of heat - maybe a good quality coal. It is quite frustrating though having to always replace the ashpan. You would think that some company would develop one that had heat resistance. Don't want to be cynical but I suppose there is more money in replacing ona regular basis.
