Don't like films which leave too many questions - what was that plant stuff? Dakota Fanning could have done with a good slap, clearly a child from a broken home!
Like the idea we have earned the right to live amongst the micro-organisms and it's that which saved us.
i agree....when io first heard that they were doing this movie i got very excited with images running thru my mind of victorian england and then this turned up ! its ok but not great.
the reason it was rushed was because spielberg was scheduled to make 'munich' first but that got stuck on hold cos of legal wranglings so he made this whilst waiting for that to be sorted ! so from start to finish it was a rushed product.
I don't think that this is Spielberg's fault necessarily. The problem is that the ending simply doesn't lend itself to a massive epic battle. The aliens simply die from Earth diseases. So no explosions, no fighting and no final battle. It's hard to inject tension into that, and so I wouldn't be too hard on him.
They also suffered from the fact that the aliens were written to be so powerful. They can't be stopped by anything humankind has to offer, so at no point would you be able to believe a situation where they were beaten, other than by an event such as disease.
