Hi,
I am having difficulty with 4 answers in the crossword, 5a, Pureed tomato's cold for old follower of queen, substituting an 'o' in tomato for a 'c' i arrive at tomcat, is this correct, if so why? 28a, What has to be done when target's within range, i have agenda, but can't see why? 30a, Again the answer i have is eatery, but where does it fit in with the clue, Each test involves English diner? Finally, 18d, Very large copper worried about large kiss, i have osculate, i get the very large copper i.e. oscu but cannot fathom where late comes from. It may seem as i am reading far to deeply into this, but i am a pedantic Yorkshireman.

I solved 28a target= end in range aga, stove, thinking to much of range, i.e. ambit.
5a queen is the name for a "she" cat if that helps ?
18D: os cu l ate...very large(os)/copper (cu)/Large (l)worried (ate)

Now worked out why 30a is eatery ea-each, try=test with E for English, so i am now happy with 18d though still cannot see where the 'late' comes from. Now only 5a is a problem.
18d is not late but L(arge) + ate (worried as in what's eating you?)

Mnay thanks to Sam1960, Tommy.toon and Calibax. All is crystal clear now.

5a. A female Tomcat is a 'queen'
