I always thought that George Brown would have been good company for a night in the Pub, although if you had matched him pint for pint, you probably wouldn't remember very much the next morning.
I met Mo Mowlem a few years ago, in a Chinese restaurant in Soho. She was, as you know, the Northern Ireland Secretary for a while and probably achieved quite a lot, in what is recognised to be one of the more difficult ministerial postings.
My Dad came from the Mountains of Mourne, in County Down and it turned out that Mo and her husband had often visited the area, in their spare time.
She was very chatty and I asked her if she could confirm a story that had been told about her. Apparently she told the Rev Ian Paisley to f**k off once, in a private meeting between them. She had enough of his bellowing into her shell-like apparently. She confirmed that the story was indeed true and she added that she never had any further trouble from the gentleman ever again !
Poor Mo...I miss her ...Lovely lady.
