I have Motorola v3 on Orange it was purchased from a local police unclaimed auctions where everything is sold as seen. I bought an orange sim which when inserted said unregistered i rang orange who said that this phone has been locked because the former owner had reported it missing, if i provided evidence of where i purchased it they could proceed with the unlock.

Ive searched high and low but cant find the reciept anywhere, so i was wondering if i inserted the sim in my wifes phone which is unlocked to any network and currently has an 02 sim in it which has never been registered, then gave the imei number of that phone to orange could the unlock be done that way and the card then work in my moto?

You are missing the point here, each mobile phone itself has a unique serial number and it is that number which Orange has blocked. Whatever you do with sim cards etc... will make no difference.

To read the serial number put *#06#

I will help you
I have no idea about them.If you want to unlock your Motorola V3 mobile phone from the network lock,I would suggest you to get an unlock code from http://www.mobileunlocksolutions.com/motorola-v3/rs16wp9/ at reasonable price. After unlocking, you can free to use it with your service provider.
