True many people today feel lonely; they feel that nobody really cares about them. Older people often feel this way, even many who serve God, also feel lonely and afraid. Do you know why?

GL, why wouldn't your omnipotent and omniscient one assume that everybody who prays is praying to him. Just think ...perhaps the reason no prayers appear to be answered is because people have got his name wrong.

A poll of 2,200 British people revealed that only 22 percent believe that there is a personal God who created the world and who hears prayers. Yet, of those polled, 55 percent pray at least occasionally.

A survey of 10,000 people on four continents showed that of the respondents who describe themselves as atheists, almost 30 percent pray.

I believed an honest, sincere, altruistic prayer would be granted. My mother had a stroke, and I prayed for her recovery. She had another stroke the day after I prayed. I prayed again, and the same thing happened. She had about a dozen strokes, and for each of them I fervently requested recovery. At last I prayed that at least she might not die. She died in misery and agony. Then I started thinking. And I have been thinking ever since. Thinking with reason and logic, and none of that thinking comes up with a god who answers prayer. Or a god who benefits humanity in any other way, either.

atalanta, your mother died of strokes, mine of cancer. Both harrowing to see but nevertheless a part of the human condition. You just do what you can to alleviate the suffering but prayer is a pointless activity imo.
