moldy bedroom wall

hi, i have a sort of built in cupboard thing in my room and after clearing it out i found loads of black mold. its an outside wall (not sure if thats relevant). how can i wash it off and stop it coming back are there any special cleaning products. it's student accomodation so i dont want to spend a fortune cos i'll just be moving out but i'd like to be able to use the space. thanks for any help

I get the same problem. I wash mine with white vinegar diluted in water and make sure it is dry before you put anything back in. Also I have bought a mini de-humidifier (about �20). and so far I haven't had any this year.

pure bleach - wipe off the black stuff with hot water and washing up liquid, then completely drench the wall with neat bleach and allow to dry.

i did that about 8 years ago and it hasn't been back since

if you like you can periodically use a spray atomiser and resoak the wall now and again, just to be safe

if you are moving out soon make sure you don't put anything close to the wall, let the air circulate, being an outside wall is very relevant. it sounds like a condensation build up, it happens when the warm air inside hits the cold outer wall, ventilation is sure cure for condensation,the only other thing I can think of is the guttering is blocked and water is coming over the top of guttering and running down the wall Good luck

HG have a brilliant product called HG Mould remover and it is brilliant. I used it well over a year ago and it is still gone.

It is a spray which you will see working straight away. It is very strong and smells of bleach and it acts like bleach. Spray it on and leave for a while and you can see it working straight away it turns brown then yellow then disappears. Well worth a try

I'd suggest using a weak solution of bleach and when it has dried, keep the cupboard door open in future to keep it ventilated.

You haven't got an outside tap on that wall have you? We had this problem in our built-in cupboard when we moved into our place, and it turned out that the tap was leaking (place was unoccupied for 6 months before we moved in), and the water was running down the wall, causing damp on the cupboard. We sorted out the leak on the tap, and the problem has gone.
